Visit the historic medieval towns of Tuscany while tasting the delectable and homemade dishes of the region, united with the "green heart of Italy," Umbria. We can alter your itinerary to include more time in Umbria, or add Pisa, Lucca, and Volterra into your itinerary, or simply plan a few wine tastings, perhaps a cooking class. This sample itinerary will give you a deep understanding of both regions, all while relaxing and unwinding.
DAY 1: USA - FLORENCE [DEPART USA]
Buon Viaggio! Dinner and a movie aloft for your transatlantic flight.
DAY 5: FLORENCE - CHIANTI [DRIVE TO CHIANTI]
Reach the rental agency today to retrieve your rental car, then drive south into the Chianti region with some possible local stops in Certaldo, Greve, or Radda before checking in to your hotel in Chianti. If you prefer not to drive, we will be glad to suggest car & driver services for your convenience.
DAY 6: CHIANTI [FREE DAY]
Chance for a day trip today to Siena, famous for its biannual Palio horse races and seashell-shaped city center, or the medieval and hilltop town of San Gimignano, home to a multitude of unique ceramic shops.
DAY 7: CHIANTI - SOUTHERN TUSCANY [ARRIVE SOUTHERN TUSCANY]
Driving to the southern side of Tuscany, consider stopping in the fortified town of Monteriggioni or Cortona, the town made famous from Under the Tuscan Sun, then check-in your accommodations located in southern Tuscany.
DAY 8: SOUTHERN TUSCANY [FREE DAY]
There's plenty to explore in the area! Some suggestions include the medieval hilltop towns of Montepulciano, famous for its vino nobile red wine, and also Pienza, well known for its pecorino cheese, perhaps Cortona if you missed it previously, or just sit back and relax and savor the countryside. The Val d'Orcia, UNESCO site is very beautiful!
DAY 9: SOUTHERN TUSCANY - ASSISI [INTRODUCTORY SIGHTS]
Continue your journey through the countryside today to Assisi. Consider a stop in Perugia, where the Perugina chocolate factory is located and there is no shortage of hazelnut-flavored chocolate! Ride along to Assisi to check-in to your centrally-located hotel, then meet your guide for detailed sightseeing through this lovely city. Highlights include the Basilica di San Francisco, St. Clare, Santa Maria Degli Angeli, and possibly Carceri Hermitage.
DAY 10: ASSISI - ROME [REACH ROME]
Driving southwest today, some possible stops could be in the small charming towns of Spello, Bevagna, Deruta, or Todi before dropping your car off at Rome Fiumicino Airport for a convenient overnight.
DAY 11: ROME - USA [RETURN HOME]
Check-in at the Rome FCO airport for your flight back home. Same day arrival in the USA. Welcome back!
DAY 2: FLORENCE [ARRIVE FLORENCE]
Upon arrival in Florence, transfer your centrally-located lodgings and enjoy some free time to explore the neighborhood. We will provide restaurant suggestions throughout.
DAY 3: FLORENCE [INTRODUCTORY SIGHTS]
Daily breakfasts provided in each hotel. Detailed private sightseeing through the City of the Medici, including Michelangelo's David at the Academy Gallery, the Duomo, Basilica of Santa Croce, and Ponte Vecchio. Free afternoon to visit Palazzo Pitti, the Bargello, or the Medici Chapels.
DAY 4: FLORENCE [UFFIZI GALLERY]
With your guide again today, tour through the famous Uffizi gallery and anything you may have missed before. Following your tour, the afternoon is at your leisure to explore some of the beautiful Basilicas such as Santa Maria Novella, San Lorenzo, and Santa Croce? Why not stroll through the neighboring Boboli Gardens or Giardino della Rose? Of course, there's always time to grab a gelato and snack at Mercato San Lorenzo!
